Checklist Upgrade InstructionsNote: Beginning with PC version 1.53, the PC components for Checklist are no longer freeware. They are now shareware, with a modest registration fee. If you upgrade to the latest version, you will be asked to register the program after a 30-day trial period. The Palm component continues to be freeware. Because of its superior processing power, the task of upgrading databases to work with new versions of Checklist is given to the PC. This insures that the Palm program stays as small as possible and simplifies programming. Here are the steps to upgrade both your Palm and PC: 1. Before you run the installer to perform an upgrade of Checklist, perform a hotsync and examine your results. You must have complete data on your PC before proceeding. 2. Create a backup of your data on the PC. (Just make a copy of your entire Checklist data folder. The location of the data folder is shown at the bottom of the program window.) 3. Run the complete installer, which installs an updated version of
Checklist for the PC and places an updated version of Checklist for the
Palm in the HotSync Manager. (The new version of Checklist for the Palm
will be installed during the next hotsync, but don't do this yet.) After
you perform the install, run Checklist on the PC. You will receive the
following prompt if Checklist determines that the data needs upgraded
to match
the capabilities of the new program. Make sure you have backed
up your data as suggested in the prompt. If you haven't
yet backed up your data, select No, back up your data,
then restart Checklist. Click Yes to proceed when the
prompt reappears. 4. A second prompt will appear. Click OK to proceed.
5. After the update, the normal Checklist window will appear. Examine your checklists on the PC to make sure they appear to be complete. 6. Delete Checklist from your Palm. This will not only delete the older version of the program, but will delete older versions of the checklists themselves as well. This step requires a leap of faith, but the old checklists will be replaced with new versions during the hotsync process. The newly created checklists on your handheld will be based on whatever data is on your PC. This is why you must make sure you have performed steps 1 and 2 before beginning the install. 7. Perform two hotsyncs in a row. The new Checklist program will now be on the Palm, along with the updated checklists. (Note: One user wrote to recommend setting the Checklist conduit in hotsync manager to Desktop Overwrites Handheld before performing the second hotsync.)
