Global Preferences

clip0052

The preferences settings in the figure above modify the global behavior of Keep Up, as explained below:

Notifier Active
If set to Yes, Keep Up will notify you whenever you open its main window, if there are upcoming or overdue tasks.

When Closing
tray Keep Up can be completely exited when you close the main window, or it can be minimized to the tray (as shown in the small, preceeding figure). If it is minimized to the tray, it will continue to monitor upcoming tasks and will generate a reminder every 24 hours if it finds tasks to report.

Organization
This information shows up in reports.

MRU Length
This configures the number of recently opened files that show in the history list at the bottom of the File menu. You can click on items in this list to quickly reopen a database that you've previously opened.

Vehicle Description Components
The vehicle descriptions that appear throughout the program are based on the elements you select here.

Save Pictures to Files
You have the option of saving vehicle pictures to separate files or including them within the database.

Thumbnail Height
This setting determins how large vehicle thumbnails will appear (if enabled) on the main window. The maximum is 120 pixels.

Vehicle Specific Preferences

clip0059

The preferences settings in the figure above modify the behavior of Keep Up for the currently selected vehicle, as explained below:

Measurement System
Determines which measurement system is used to display distance (or hours) and fuel quantities. Headings in several areas of the program will change to reflect the current selection.

Maintenance Reports

Include Vehicle in Reports
When a check is placed in the Report column, that vehicle will be included on task reports. The same setting can be made on the Vehicles tab on the main screen.

Notification Margins
The numbers entered here specifies how many miles (kilometers, or hours) and/or days in advance Keep Up will notify you of upcoming tasks.

Show Parts
Check or uncheck to enable/disable the display of parts information in task reports.

Show Specifications
Check or uncheck to enable/disable the display of capacities and specifications in task reports.

Current Vehicle
The Current Vehicle controls allow you to cycle through your vehicles, making each vehicle selected the current vehicle, so vehicle-specific configurations can be applied. See the topic that explains the Database Navigator for more information about moving from one vehicle to another.

Odometer Correction

Use the controls under Odometer Correction when you know that your odometer doesn't accurately record the distance (or time) you operate your vehicle. By activating this control, you can force maintenance intervals and fuel consumption to be accurately calculated and reported, provided you know how inaccurate your odometer is. In order for this feature to work, you must perform a test so you can obtain a comparison between an actual distance traveled vs the distance reported by your odometer. For example, as the figure above shows, when my Jeep's odometer reported 92.0 miles, I had actually driven 103.56 miles, as determined by my Global Positioning System (GPS).

Use Odometer Correction
Place a check here to activate odometer correction.

Actual Distance
Enter the actual distance you drive during a test, as determined by a GPS, highway markers, etc.

Reported Distance
Enter the distance your odometer reports during the test.

A Real Example of Odometer Correction
Below are screen shots from my Jeep's fuel record that illustrate the differences reported on the Fuel Records screen when odometer correction is not activated (first figure) and odometer correction is activated (second figure). In the first figure (odometer correction not active), the figures reported for distance and fuel economy are lower than they should be because the inacurate odometer reading is used as-is. In the second figure (odometer correction active), the distance and fuel economy are accurate because the distance actually traveled is adjusted according to the figures provided in the Odometer Correction section. (Shown on the Preferences screen above.)
